Site changes

I’ve always tried to keep all of the stuff I do in a single place, that’s started to change. Recently I’ve split this blog off from the main site and also changed over to using Wordpress rather than using blogger.com. Seems to be pretty good and I have much more control over it than I did with my last one - and it imported all of the posts and comments :)

The forums have now also gone to a new home which is here, this is where you can find the gaming side of my life. I’m not into it anywhere near as much as I used to be but it needed to be seperate from my stuff and that way I can give Mannos access to it all as he pretty much runs the show now!

The gallery is on it’s way out as well, it’s new home will be, yeah you guessed it, gallery.lathwood.co.uk, this will house my standard gallery and the digital slr one I have as well so stay tuned for that.

The old Windows Vista love/hate thing

A friend over on his blog recently posted about his love, err, hate of windows Vista.

Now me, I quite like it actually, it looks funky, runs perfectly fine on my lappy and hasn’t crashed once since I installed it. It’s a welcome addition and upgrade to XP which has been the next best OS that MS have produced since Windows 3.11 and 95.

Now I know that you can get other OS’ (free ones as well) to provide the same features as Vista but that involves either, messing around - which I really can’t be bothered to do or Linux (still messing around IMHO) however it is not my type of OS for desktop use yet. I use it on a day to day basis at work as a server OS and it’s brilliant, but spend time trying to get some software working because it may have compatibilty issues is not my idea of computing.

For what I use it for - it rocks, I wouldn’t install anything else and it just works for me.

Booked a trip to America

Well my cousin’s dad booked our tickets for the trip to America next year, 4 of us are going. My cousin and her husband, my g/f and myself. We fly out to New York on the 14th to get their in time to celebrate my birthday :) In total we will be in the states for about 20 days and will celebrate my cousin’s and my g/f’s birthday whilst we are over there.

So far we have decided to:

* Spend 3 days in New York
* Travel to the Grand Canyon, possibly via helicopter
* Blow some cash in Las Vegas
* Head to San Diego

Still checking other places we can go in the time we have, we will be spending quite a bit of time in L.A as I have family there with one of my other cousin’s who’s just had a baby.

Anyway, to set myself a target to aim for for the holiday I’ve decided to get training and eat better. I’ve slacked off from the gym and sports in the past month so really need to get back on it asap! So, starting from tonight I got back to it with an hours training in the newly kitted out gym Bannatyne Fitness

Flasher!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Really getting into photography now, managed to pick up a Canon 430EX flashgun last week which has helped out with the macro work I’ve been trying to do. The difference this has made to the lighting when I don’t have natural daylight is excellent, shadows are less than before which can really only be bettered by having another flash unit, something like the 580EX and using the 430 as a slave.

Hoping to be able to make use of it pretty soon as I’ve got a christening to go to on in a few weeks so maybe I’ll get asked to take some photos for the occassion :)

Anyway, at the moment I’m just trying to read as much as I can on how to take better photos as I’ve got a long long way to go. So if anyone has any decent reading material they have found online whether it’s for digital photography or not then I’d appreciate it if you could post them here please.

Seam carving

I posted a while ago on the forums about a new image resizing/shaping algorithm that been documented. Well, for those who’ve wanted to get their hands on some software to be able to do this you might want to check the following links out:

Free plugin for GIMP

http://picutel.com/
$95 for the full version but you can download the free one but it will only support images < 640×480 in size.
